11 May 2016: Forest Industry Taskforce website now live

Forest Industry Taskforce website

Welcome to the first newsletter from the Forest Industry Taskforce.

The work of the Forest Industry Taskforce began with a Victorian Government election commitment to “support a consensus approach in the establishment of any new national parks…[via] the establishment of an Industry Taskforce to provide leadership to reach common ground on future issues facing the industry, job protection, economic activity, protection of our unique native flora and fauna and threatened species, such as the Leadbeater’s possum.”(1).

That was in November 2014. Since then the Taskforce group of ten, representing forest conservation groups, the timber industry and the union, have been meeting regularly to “reach common ground on a durable, long-term set of recommendations and proposals to government” (2).

The Forest Industry Taskforce has now developed a website to provide information for people interested in finding out more about the work of the Taskforce.

The website www.forestindustrytaskforce.com.au will develop over time, but presently contains:

  • the Terms of Reference
  • a timeline of progress to date
  • answers to frequently asked questions
  • a way to subscribe for updates
  • media releases
  • contact details for writing to or emailing the Taskforce Secretariat

We invite you to visit the website and use the contact page to get in touch if you’d like. Please also feel free to forward this newsletter on to others and encourage them to subscribe.
