8 June 2016: Update from workshop five

Forest Industry Taskforce Workshop 5

The Forest Industry Taskforce Core Group met for a further two days on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 June at the Abbotsford Convent.

At workshop five, the Core Group built on discussions held over the course of the Taskforce process thus far, and in particular on draft frameworks and scoping discussed at the two-day residential workshop four at Lancefield in late May.

In line with the Terms of Reference, the Taskforce Core Group is progressing the scope and direction of content for the June report to the Premier, exploring opportunities for change in the context of reaching durable outcomes through consensus decision-making.

Core Group members also undertook an initial stock take of the full suite of the Areas of Inquiry, where possible highlighting broad areas of agreement across the system thus far, and identifying potential next steps (including key questions and involvement of experts and interested and affected parties).

To continue development of our understanding of wood modelling – and subsequent to earlier presentations from University of Melbourne and VicForests – the Core Group received a third presentation about wood modelling, this time from the Australian National University.

The Core Group next meets on 20 and 21 June.
